Our Technical Services Department is seeking a Technician to work at the Castle Rock Broadcast Center located in Castle Rock, CO. You will work closely with the Technical Operations Center to identify problems in specific markets/channels and restore the on air broadcast. Responsibilities:

DIRECTV's CRBC Technical Services Department is seeking a Broadcast RF/Transport Specialist (Tech 2) to work at the Castle Rock Broadcast facility located in Castle Rock, Colorado. This is a challenging position working with some of the latest HD/SD television equipment and technologies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Ensure consistent, high quality analog and digital television signal transports and satellite transmissions.

  • Installation, diagnosis and maintenance of critical on-air video, audio, RF, baseband, signal processing, transport and transmission equipment.This responsibility includes DirecTV’s Mpeg 2 and Mpeg 4 Broadcast transmissions streams and all associated Local Collection Facilities, Broadcast Centers, Ground station Equipment, and associated Monitor and Control hardware.

  • Configure and troubleshoot a variety of television broadcast, transport, and transmission equipment. That will include but not limited to:

  • high power transmitters (Klystron & Travelling Wave Tube)

  • antenna tracking system

  • up/downlink signal processors

  • video receivers

  • digital video compression systems

  • Analog and digital audio/video distribution amplifiers and routers

  • Analog-to-digital and digital-to analog converters

  • Fiber transmitters, fiber receivers and optical cabling

  • Video and audio monitoring systems

  • reference pulse and time code systems

  • CISCO systems routers

  • Digital Transport Stream Analyzers

  • Video over IP transmission hardware

  • Modulation and demodulation hardware

  • Antenna De-Ice subsystems

  • Install cabling and new equipment.

  • Perform routine maintenance on various subsystems.

  • Summarize and Present Technical information in both verbal and written form

  • Assist in project research, design, planning, implementation, procedure documentation and training.

  • Associates degree, certificate or equivalent military training in electronics and/or related systems is preferred.

  • Desired work experience to include 2-4 years technical maintenance or equivalent military experience with electronics, communication, television broadcast or Earth Station processes and equipment to include but not limited to:

  • high power transmitters (Klystron & Travelling Wave Tube)

  • antenna tracking systems

  • up/downlink signal processors

  • video receivers

  • digital video compression systems

  • Analog and digital audio/video distribution amplifiers and routers

  • Analog-to-digital and digital-to analog converters

  • Fiber transmitters, fiber receivers and optical cabling

  • Experience should include knowledge in troubleshooting, analyzing relationships between components within television systems and IT transport systems, conducting routine maintenance and utilizing transport and spectrum analyzers, waveform/vector scopes, and other test equipment.Candidates shall demonstrate knowledge in one or all of the below: RF Antenna (Details should include, but not limited to: )

  • Satellite Ground Segment experience

  • Antenna servo tracking fundamentals

  • remote and local Antenna tracking procedures

  • klystron operation theory

  • Klystron tuning procedures,

  • Ka & Ku Frequency ranges

  • Antenna De-Ice systems

  • RF modulation fundamentals

  • Exposure to Remote Monitor and control subsystems

  • In-depth Understanding of RF components

  • In-depth knowledge of RF signal measurement tools

  • Experience in antenna components (identification of use and exposure to Periodic Maintenance Operations)

  • Exposure to Telemetry, Tracking, and Control for Spacecraft operations Mpeg Transports (Details should include, but not limited to: )

  • Mpeg, ATSC, and DVB specifications

  • Use of transport stream analyzers

  • Fundamental Understanding of ATSC, DVB, Mpeg transport stream structure

  • Fundamental understanding of Transport Stream transmission formats to include but not limited to ASI, Multicast, TCP-IP, UDP.

  • Digital Video Compression fundamentals (primarily Statistical Multiplexing Concepts)

  • Exposure to Digital Video Processing system Configurations and troubleshooting techniques

  • Exposure to Conditional Access Concepts and Techniques

  • Experience installing cabling and new equipment, interpreting wiring diagrams/schematics and working with engineers to test and integrate new systems.

  • Must possess knowledge with LAN, WAN, Virtualization Platforms and computer technologies including the ability to learn various computer applications and internal programs critical to television broadcast processing and transport. Knowledge of VMWare, VSphere, v‐Center and Virtual Encode systems, or willingness to learn.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment with changing priorities.Physical requirements:

  • Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Ability to climb external antenna system ladders and work at heights up to 30 ft.

  • Dexterity to work in confined spaces down to 16 cubic ft. Ability to work outside in inclement weather. - SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a negative pre-employment drug test.

  • Criminal and MVR background must meet company hiring criteria.

  • Position will be located in the DIRECTV Castle Rock Broadcast Center in Colorado. As the Castle Rock Broadcast Center and the Technical Services Department is a 24 x 7 facility, willing and able to work shift work, weekends and holidays as needed.

  • Minimal travel via commercial airline required on occasion.
